This installment of #WCWednesdays brings us this lot of two Iranian 1/2 Pahlavi Gold Coins, one from 1963 and one from 1971.

These coins depict the Shah of Iran, ruler of the Kingdom of Iran from 1941 until 1979.  Iran, historically known as Persia, has a rich history of producing gold coins.  The first gold Darics, named for their ruler Darius, were produced between 521 and 485 BC.

The reverse depicts a crown and sun above a sword-wielding lion encircled by a wreath.
