1987. It was a different time. A time of acid washed jeans, big hair, heavy metal, professional wrestling, and IROC-Z’s.

1787. It was a very different time. A time of stockings for men, powdered wigs, chamber music, musket hunting, and horse drawn carriages.

It was also the year that our founding fathers draft the Constitution of these United States. So, two hundred years later, the Mint created a coin commemorating the Bicentennial of the creation of the laws of the land.

Let’s take a closer look. The obverse depicts an eagle clutching a quill pen, even though, historically, no eagles were involved in drafting of signing the Constitution.

The reverse shows a quill and the opening phrase of the document, “We the People.” The coin has a $5 face value and contains¬†.2419 ounces of pure gold.

Ours is graded Mint State 70, and the PCGS slab is signed by the Chief Engraver of the Mint, John Mercanti.
